WHITE OAK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One person has died following a crash on Hinton Road in Raleigh County.
According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at around 12:10 PM, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hinton Road in the White Oak area.
According to the investigation, a Pontiac passenger vehicle was heading west on Hinton Road when the driver lost control while navigating a right-hand curve.
The car crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a ditch, which caused it to spin counterclockwise and collide with a utility pole on the passenger side.
Units from the Ghent and Beaver Volunteer Fire Departments arrived at the scene, where they found both occupants trapped inside the vehicle along with two small dogs.
Rescue tools were used to free the occupants and the dogs.
Medical personnel from Ghent EMS and Jan-Care Ambulance provided medical assistance at the scene.
The driver, identified as Karen Weikle, 55, of Greenville, WV, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, who sustained critical injuries, was transported to a local medical facility and later transferred for advanced treatment.
The dogs were taken to the Raleigh County Humane Society until family members could be located.
The crash remains under investigation by Cpl. J.T. Howard and Lt. J.L. Redden.
