SAINT ALBANS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One person has been confirmed dead following an officer-involved shooting in West Virginia.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), Detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier this morning in the 2700 block of Lincoln Avenue in Saint Albans that killed a 53-year-old male.
Saint Albans Police Department Officers were called to a residence on Lincoln Avenue just after midnight regarding a domestic violence call with a knife-wielding man.
Nitro Police Officers responded with Saint Albans Police and were confronted by the male who was still brandishing the knife toward officers upon their arrival.
Attempts were made to use less lethal force against the man; however, their efforts were deemed ineffective.
The male continued to advance at officers with the knife and officers were forced to discharge their weapons. Officers then performed life-saving measures at the scene, but the man succumbed to his injuries.
Chief of Detectives, Lieutenant S.D. Snuffer (Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office) reported that three officers at the scene discharged their firearms.
Two officers were with the Nitro Police Department and one officer was with the Saint Albans Police Department.
No officers were injured during this incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Detectives are still examining physical evidence as this is still very early in the investigation.
No names or further details can be released at this time but after a thorough investigation is completed, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office will submit their findings to the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review as this is standard procedure.
