CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A two-week law enforcement operation targeting non-compliant sex offenders in Kanawha County and surrounding areas has led to 38 arrests, the recovery of four missing children, and multiple drug and weapons seizures, officials announced.
Operation Cupid’s Arrow, conducted by the U.S. Marshals Southern District of West Virginia CUFFED Task Force and the West Virginia State Police (WVSP), ran from February 1 through Valentine’s Day.
Among those arrested, 15 were sex offenders who had either failed to register or had active warrants for sex crimes.
The WVSP conducted 108 sex offender compliance checks, finding 26 individuals out of compliance, leading to arrest warrants.
Notable Arrests
Christopher Shawn Rider, 34, of Lewisburg, was apprehended in San Antonio, Texas, on February 6. He was wanted by the WVSP for failure to register as a sex offender and by the West Virginia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for a parole violation. Authorities say Rider had been evading law enforcement since June 2024.
Christopher Rush, 50, of Elkview, was arrested on February 11 for allegedly using a minor to produce obscene material and assist in sexually explicit conduct. Investigators say Rush sent photos of himself abusing a toddler to another man via social media.
Other arrests during the operation included charges such as possession with intent to deliver controlled substances, child concealment, malicious wounding, strangulation, and federal probation violations.
Seizures and Federal Investigations
Authorities seized four firearms, 95.02 grams of methamphetamine, and 18 grams of fentanyl. Additionally, five noncompliant sex offenders were found in violation of the Adam Walsh Act, prompting federal investigations.
