CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Officials for the West Virginia Parkways Authority expect about 420,500 transactions at toll booths on the West Virginia Turnpike during the four-day Labor Day travel period that runs Friday, September 4, 2026, through Monday, September 7, 2026.
Friday is expected to be the most heavily traveled day, with 141,000 transactions predicted. About 107,000 transactions are expected on Monday.
To avoid delays during the 2026 Labor Day holiday travel period, travelers should consider Saturday, September 5, or Sunday, September 6, when projected transaction volumes are lower.
Travelers should avoid peak travel on Friday and, if possible, plan trips during the lower-volume weekend dates to help minimize delays.
The West Virginia Parkways Authority, and West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) urge drivers to observe all speed limits, avoid distractions, and avoid driving impaired on the Turnpike and all state roads and highways.
