(LOOTPRESS) – More than 50,000 homeless veterans across the United States have found permanent housing in 2025, marking an increase of over 4,000 compared to the previous year, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
The VA reported that 51,936 homeless veterans were permanently housed this year, up from 47,925 in 2024. The nationwide figures include 322 veterans permanently housed by the Hampton VA Healthcare System.
“This is life-changing and in many cases life-saving work,” said Interim Executive Director Dr. Sharee Taylor in a statement. “We are proud of the progress Hampton VA Healthcare System is making to get veterans off the streets and are redoubling our efforts to continue this momentum moving forward.”
The VA said this is the best performance since it began tracking the number of individual veterans permanently housed.
In 2022, the department adopted a new methodology for counting placements and applied it retroactively to 2019 to provide a more accurate picture of veterans helped.
In May 2025, the VA launched the Getting Veterans Off the Street program, which involved surge events at every VA health care system across the country.
The initiative aimed to locate homeless veterans and provide immediate access to housing programs, health care, behavioral health services, and other VA benefits.
