RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Raleigh County business owner has been charged following a state police investigation into an alleged fraudulent purchase of an off-road vehicle.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the West Virginia State Police, Paul Massey, owner of Massey Powersports in Beckley, is accused of forging a customer’s signature and using false paperwork to secure financing for an $18,094.20 off-road vehicle.

Troopers said the investigation began on September 8, 2025, when a man reported receiving a bill from “Yard Card,” a financing company, demanding payment for the vehicle.
The man told police he had visited Massey Motorsports in June to inquire about a new off-road vehicle but insisted he never agreed to purchase one, never signed any sales documents, and never received the machine.
When the man contacted the bank, he was shown a sales receipt dated June 29, 2025, listing him as the buyer of a side by side.
The man denied the purchase and said the signature on the paperwork was not his.
Police compared the document to multiple signature samples the man provided and determined the sales receipt signature did not match.
On September 9, troopers executed a search warrant at Massey Powersports and later interviewed Paul Massey.
According to the complaint, Massey voluntarily gave officers a copy of the sales agreement and invoice tied to the disputed purchase. The paperwork also bore the disputed signature and was dated June 29 — a Sunday, when Massey Powersports is closed.
When confronted with the inconsistencies, police said Massey admitted, “I signed that one, I’ll be honest with you.” Investigators allege Massey used a forged signature and the victim’s financing account information to complete the sale.
Massey is charged with multiple offenses, including fraud and related activity in connection with access devices, fraudulent schemes, and forgery.
He is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail.
