PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Parkersburg Police Department will host a special day of celebration on Friday, September 12, 2025, to recognize the inspiring journey of 13-year-old Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, a young cancer warrior who has captured the hearts of law enforcement officers across the nation.
Diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer in 2018 and given just five months to live, DJ has since undergone 13 brain surgeries.
Defying the odds, he has devoted himself to being sworn in by as many law enforcement agencies as possible, becoming an honorary officer in more than 1,000 departments worldwide—including an international swearing-in in Italy and a recognition by President Donald Trump as an honorary Secret Service Agent.
The Parkersburg Police will officially welcome DJ into their ranks during a swearing-in ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at the Bandshell in City Park.
Later that evening, the community is invited to the Point Park Amphitheatre for a free concert at 7:00 p.m. featuring The Chris Darlington Band’s “On Your Bumper Tour.” Both events are open to the public.
“DJ Daniel represents the very best of what it means to wear a badge—courage, resilience, and a heart for service,” said Parkersburg Police Chief Matthew Board.
“His story reminds all of us why we took an oath to protect and serve. We are humbled to welcome him into our law enforcement family here in Parkersburg.”
The department is also calling on other law enforcement agencies across West Virginia to participate.
Agencies interested in holding their own swearing-in ceremony for DJ during the event are encouraged to contact the Parkersburg Police Department to coordinate.
