NEW HAVEN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was taken into custody after allegedly pulling a firearm and pointing it at a store employee inside a Dollar General in New Haven on February 23, 2025.
At approximately 11:06 a.m., the Mason County E911 Center received a call from New Haven Police Chief D. Hardwick, reporting that a suspect with a firearm was inside the Dollar General at 305 5th Street. Deputy First Class J.P. Anderson of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, Anderson found Hardwick had already detained the suspect, identified as Chad Carpenter. Hardwick stated that he responded to the store after receiving a report from Dollar General employee Angie Fields about an irate customer with a gun.
According to Fields, Carpenter approached the register and repeatedly said the store manager, Shirley, was “fucking stupid.” Fields stated that Carpenter then pulled a toboggan from his jacket, revealing a firearm underneath. When she told him “No, Chad,” Carpenter allegedly pointed the gun at her and said, “People are crazy around here,” adding that he was “going to take care of it.”
After leaving the store, Carpenter was located by Hardwick, who detained him near his residence until Anderson arrived. The case remains under investigation, and charges against Carpenter are pending.
