(LOOTPRESS) – A new viral fitness trend known as the “Pick Up Challenge” is dominating Google searches across the U.S., driving unprecedented interest in one-arm strength training and upper-body workouts.
According to Google Trends data, searches for “how to pick up with one arm” hit an all-time high in October, marking the strongest surge the platform has ever recorded for the query. At the same time, interest in “how to increase arm strength” climbed by 140% over the past month, showing how quickly the challenge has pushed people toward strength-training tutorials.
Interest in more advanced movements spiked as well. “How to do a one-arm push-up” was labeled a breakout search — meaning it grew faster than Google could reliably measure — and “record heaviest one-arm pull-up” saw a similar explosion in popularity as users tried to understand the limits of upper-body power.
The trend has also shifted focus toward specific muscle groups. The shoulder became the top-trending “how to improve…” muscle search topic nationwide, while interest in the bent-over row skyrocketed 3,700%, marking one of the steepest single-month increases of any exercise search this year.
Google’s list of top-trending arm workouts in the U.S. over the past month includes:
• Overhead tricep extension
• Dumbbell shoulder press
• Preacher curls
• Dumbbell lateral raise
The “Pick Up Challenge” — fueled by short-form videos showing people lifting objects, pets, and sometimes other adults with one arm — appears to be motivating a new wave of at-home strength training. Fitness coaches say the exercises gaining traction align with real functional strength: pressing, rowing, and stabilizing movements that build the muscles needed for controlled one-arm lifting.
Whether the trend fades or pushes more people into strength training long-term, one thing is clear: Americans are suddenly very interested in getting a whole lot stronger.
