ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Participants gathered on Friday for the 35th Annual Homer K. Ball Golf Tournament, proceeds from which will go toward the funding of scholarships for students at Concord University.
The Summit Community Bank team featuring Randy Price, Dexter Moor, Garry Moore, and Bob Ramsey claimed victory in the men’s team division this year. The Elks Club took the top prize in the women’s team division following a performance from players Donn Kowaleski, Carolyn Truman, Linda Zirkle, and Sandra Gay.
The annual golf tournament benefitting Concord was name after Homer K. Ball in 1991. Ball was a Lenora native who graduated from Concord University in 1948. He would serve as Mercer County Sheriff, a West Virginia State Senator, and the Director of Concord University’s Physical Plant.
In 2008, following Ball’s passing, the tournament was renamed the Homer K. Ball Memorial Golf Tournament in memory of the beloved West Virginian.
