GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Investigators searching a wooded area of Greenbrier County on Tuesday discovered possible human remains connected to an ongoing missing person investigation, according to the Greenbrier County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the West Virginia State Police.
Authorities said multiple law enforcement agencies took part in the coordinated search operation on May 19, 2026.
After the remains were located, the scene was secured and processed by the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team with assistance from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement personnel.
Officials said the remains have been sent to the West Virginia State Police Crime Laboratory and Marshall University for forensic testing and identification.
The investigation remains active, and authorities said no additional information will be released until the remains are positively identified and next of kin are notified.
The Greenbrier County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said it will continue working with investigators as the case moves forward.
