LOGAN COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Appalachian Power crews are working to restore electricity to thousands of customers after wildfires in Logan County damaged equipment near the Stone Branch Substation.
As of Friday afternoon, more than a third of the 3,200 customers affected by the outage have had their power restored.
The wildfires, which began on September 12, caused trees to fall onto power lines, resulting in significant outages, primarily in the Harts Creek area of Logan and Lincoln counties.
Crews have extinguished all fires near the substation, and about 1,100 customers regained power before 11 a.m. today.
As of 1 p.m. Friday, around 2,100 customers were still without power. Appalachian Power estimates that all remaining customers will have service restored by 6 p.m.
Residents are urged to stay clear of downed power lines and report any hazards immediately.
