Strong left-handed pitching has always been a solid asset to any high school baseball pitching staff.
Greenbrier East head coach Cory Mann has one of the best in the state leading his crew in Jake Roshau.
“Jake is a bulldog on the mound. It doesn’t matter who we run him out against, he is the same guy every day. He comes with a great approach and throws strikes. Jake gives us a chance every time he toes the rubber.”
In week three of the baseball season, Roshau led Greenbrier East to a pair of wins. In 12.2 innings of work, Roshau struck out 18 batters to lead the Spartan attack.
His work on the mound did not go unnoticed as Roshau has been named the week three Lootpress Baseball Player of the Week, sponsored by Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele.
“It means a lot to get this award. Obviously this is a year that colleges are going to start heavily looking at me, so this exposure really helps a lot,” Roshau said.
A solid performer throughout his career, the senior lefty has been even better this season..
“I think it is another year of maturity,” Mann said about the improvement of his ace. “He has really been dialed in, focused and wants to continue playing the game. He took the approach of really getting serious and wanted to do something special on the mound for us.”
The serious approach for Roshau started well before opening day.
“The key has been the work I have put in over the off-season,” Roshau explained. I played on travel teams and did bullpen work in the winter. I was working all off-season. No off days.”
Roshau’s work on the mound is not the only area of importance for a rather young Greenbrier East roster.
“He does a great job with senior leadership and leading some of our younger guys,” Mann said. “He is has been that rock for us.”
Also nominated for the week three honor was Michael McKinney (Independence), Jacob Howard (Wyoming East), Hunter Harmon (Bluefield) and Cade Kincaid (Midland Trail).
