Beckley 7, James Monroe 2
Bluefield – Beckley scored five runs in the sixth inning to beat James Monroe 7-2 in the championship game of the 50th annual Allen D. Coppinger Tournament.
Gage Price had two RBI for the Flying Eagles and Blake Nixon had three hits and an RBI. Maddex Sims and Luke Barnes had two hits, while Ty Evans, Brady Williams and Barnes all drove in one run.
Williams picked up the win scattering seven hits with eight strikeouts and zero earned runs.
Justin Feamster had a double, a single and two RBI for the Mavericks and Baylee Ridgeway hit a double.
Williams was named the Jeff Boyles Most Valuable Player for the tournament and Price was named to the All-Coppinger team. Peyton Gardinier and Kaden Lowe were named All-Coppinger from James Monroe.
The win was the third Coppinger title for Beckley (1976, 1982) over the history of the tournament.
Wyoming East 5, Greenbrier West 3
Charmco – Wyoming East managed just four hits, but was able to score five runs in a 5-3 win over Greenbrier West.
Bryson Hunt had two hits, while Jarred Phillips and Miken Smyth each had an RBI. Zach Hunt picked up the win and had 10 strikeouts.
Levi Ramsey had a double for West and David Lester had two RBI.
Independence 12, Greenbrier East 3
Wheeling Central 15, Independence 7
Hurricane – Independence split a pair of games Saturday played at Hurricane High School.
The Patriots topped Greenbrier East 12-3 and fell to Wheeling Central Catholic 15-7.
Degan Williams and Micah Cuthbert each had a double, a single and one RBI against the Spartans, while Reid Warden earned the win and had a solo home run.
Orion Wills had a double and two RBI and Carter Hajash had two RBI.
Zion Detko had a home run, a triple and two RBI for East and Eli Green had two hits.
Warden had a double and two RBI against the Maroon Knights who had 15 hits in the win. Blake Stratton had two hits for the Patriots.
