Independence 13, Greenbrier East 5
The Patriots erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a tied ball game en route to a 13-5 win over Greenbrier East Wednesday in Coal City.
Atticus Goodson blasted a two-run home run in the decisive sixth inning and drove in three runs. Goodson also pitched four scoreless innings to open the game, striking out seven.
Michael McKinney also hit a round-tripper and drove in two runs. Andy Lester collected two hits, including a double, and also drove in a pair of runs.
Ashton Cochran and Peyton Dehaven each had a hit and an RBI for the Spartans.
Independence (8-0) hosts Nicholas County Thursday. Greenbrier East heads to the Eastern Panhandle to play Hedgesville and Jefferson Friday and Saturday.
Liberty 10, Summers County 9
Hinton – Liberty knocked off Summers County 10-9 Wednesday in a back and forth slugfest.
Andrew Pettry led the Raiders with four hits, including a triple and double, while driving in five runs. Clayton Williams collected three hits and had an RBI.
Brandon Isaac led the Bobcats with a double and four RBI, while Jacob Boone and Benjamin Lane each hit a double.
Alexander Hudgins had two RBI for Summers County who travels to Greenbrier West Thursday. Liberty travels to Woodrow Wilson Thursday.
