Bluefield – Leading 5-4 in the seventh, Bluefield allowed a triple that turned into the tying run before Shady Spring scored six in the eighth inning to beat the Beavers 11-5 at Bowen Field Wednesday, taking Game 1 of the Class AA Region 3 championship.
In the extra frame Shady did all of its damage with two outs.
With Colten Tate on first, Tyler Mackey doubled to score the former, later scoring when Josh Lovell smacked hiss geocnd triple in as many innings to push the lead to 7-5 an error and two hits later followed, allowing the final four runs to cross.
The series now shifts to Shady Spring where the Tigers have a chance to close it out on Thursday.
Bluefield will likely tab Caleb Fuller to pitch after Kerry Collins and Ryker Brown crossed the 30-pitch threshold in Wednesday’s loss.
The Tigers will have their No. 2 in Alex Johnston available as he only threw 27 pitches, picking up the win Wednesday.
First pitch is set for 4 p.m. in order to beat the pending weather.
