Midland Trail 14, Richwood 3 (5 innings)
Hico – Midland Trail pounded out 17 hits and scored in all five innings to defeat Richwood 14-3 Tuesday.
Cody Harrell led the Patriots at the dish with four hits, including two double, a triple, and two RBI.
Larry Bigham had a pair of singles, a double and two RBI, while Aaron Dempsey smacked a triple and drove in one run.
Bo Persinger and Xaylen Johns also had two hits and an RBI for the Patriots. Will McGraw and Aiden Foster knocked in two runs each.
Dakota Sizemore and Jayce Tharp each had an RBI for the Lumberjacks.
Charleston Catholic 22, Summers County 9 (5innings)
Hinton – The defending Class A champions, Charleston Catholic exploded for 12 second-inning runs en route to a 22-9 win over Summers County in five innings Tuesday.
Jeffrey Reynolds blasted a grand slam for the Irish and Jonah Dicocco also hit a home run and had three RBI.
Xander Hudgins had a grand slam for the Bobcats, while Brandon Issac and Peyton Miller each had a double.
Greenbrier West 3, Wyoming East 2
New Richmond – Greenbrier West built a 3-0 lead and held off a furious rally from Wyoming East to take a 3-2 win.
The Warriors had the bases loaded with two outs before a solid defensive play from Chance Hanna in right field saved the game for the Cavaliers.
Dale Boone led West with a double and an RBI. Boone also threw five-and-a third innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball.
Jacob Howard had a double and an RBI for the Warriors. Miken Smyth was the tough-luck loser going six-and-two-thirds allowing just one earned run.
Catholic (VA) 10, Independence 9 (8 innings)
Pawley’s Island, S.C. – Independence dropped a heartbreaker on the opening day of the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic
After rallying to even the game in the top of the seventh inning, the Patriots fell 10-9 in eight innings to Catholic, Va.
The extra frame was played based on international rules where the last out of the previous inning starts on second base.
J.D. Monroe, Levi Barnett, James Williams and Orion Willis all had two RBI for Independence. Monroe, Williams, Barnett and Brayden Kiblinger also had doubles on the afternoon.
Matthew Norman had a home run and three RBI to pace the Crusaders, while Alex Chalfant smacked a triple and also drove in three runs.
Atlantic Shores Christian (VA) 4, Beckley 3 (8 innings)
Conway, S.C. – Beckley added itself to the list of tough finishes for local teams Tuesday in the Magnolia State.
The Flying Eagles surrendered a 3-0 lead in the sixth before dropping a 4-3 decision to Atlantic Shores Christian, Va. in eight innings. The extra frame was played based on international rules where the last out of the previous inning starts on second base.
Maddex Sims collected two hits and had an RBI for Beckley, while Ari Payne added an RBI and Blake Stratton smacked a double.
Conner Mollohan went five-and-third innings allowing just one run, while striking out seven.
Ross Horne did the damage for the Seahawks with a double and four RBI on the day.
Lake City (SC) 15, PikeView 1
Myrtle Beach, S.C. – A 10-run fourth inning was too much for PikeView to overcome Tuesday at the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic, falling to Lake City, S.C.
Peyton Greer and Brian Huggins had the only two hits for the Panthers.
Lake City collected eight hits and took advantage of eight PikeView errors in the win. Jase McKnight had three hits and three RBI to pace Lake City.
Nicholas County 13, Liberty 2
Summersville – Nicholas County jumped out to a 13-0 leadTuesday, cruising to a 13-2 win over Liberty.
Grayson Kesterson led the Grizzlies with three hits, driving in a run while Andrew Triplett drove in three runs.
Aiden Scarbrough led Liberty with three hits while Landon Hall had two RBIs.
Charleston Catholic 22, Summers County 9
Hinton – Charleston Catholic erupted for 12 runs in the second inning, securing a 22-9 win over Summers County in Hinton Tuesday.
Xander Hudgins paced the Bobcats in the win with three hits and five RBIs.
Ben Lane also drove in a run in the loss.
