Covid and inclement weather have drastically changed the landscape of the New River CTC Invitational.
Another change to the tournament has been announced, though one that draws much anticipation.
On Thursday Tournament Director Mike Green confirmed that defending Class AAA champion Shady Spring, the No. 2 team in AAA this season, is scheduled to play Class A No. 1 Greater Beckley on Friday at 6:30, provided the games are allowed to be played.
It was announced before 7 p.m. on Thursday that Raleigh County schools will be closed on Friday but superintendents have the option to allow “tournament games” to be played.
Shady Spring comes into the game with a 5-1 record – its only loss coming to Class AAA No. 1 Logan. Greater Beckley came into the week with a 6-0 mark but dropped its first game of the season on Tuesday to Calvary.
The rest of the New River Invitational schedule will be released as more information become available.
