Class AAA No. 2 Shady Spring broke open a four-point game in the second quarter and ran away for a 98-70 over county rival Independence in Coal City Monday.
Player of the Year candidate Ammar Maxwell poured in 38 points, including 16 in the opening quarter, to lead the Tigers.
Jaylon Bailey scored 19, while Gavin Davis added 17 and Jack Williams scored 14 for the Tigers (9-2).
Ashton Arthur led the Patriots with 26 points. Sylas Nelson and Degan Williams added 12 points each.

Princeton – Mercer Christian (8-10) shook off a slow start and ran away from Jefferson Christian Monday 58-31.
M.J. Patton led all scorers with 26 points and had five assists and five steals for the Cavaliers.
Kyler Carpenter and Isaac Sharp both recorded a double-double in the win. Carpenter had 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Sharp had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Eli Patton added seven points, eight assists and six rebounds.
