The Shady Spring boys soccer team scorched the back of the net Thursday night in a 7-nil victory over Bluefield.
“It was a complete performance beginning with intensity and fire, then ending with poise and cool heads as they saw the game out,” Shady Spring head coach Josiah Smith.
Junior Nathan Vecellio led the Tigers with a hat trick and two assists, while his older brother Michael Vecellio scored on a penalty kick.
Micah Smith combined with the Vecellio brothers to frustrate the Beavers up top, adding a goal and an assist.
David Hegele was solid on both ends of the pitch, scoring his second goal of the season, while Garrett Meador came off the bench to add another strike for the Tigers.
“Senior midfielders Jacob Shamblin and Elijah Smith had their best performance of the season and senior wing-back Walker Furrow battled hard on both offense and defense,” Smith said.
Shady Spring freshman keeper Jack Billeter recorded a clean sheet, rejecting six shots from the visitors.
“Senior defender Jody Thomas won the battles all night and Grant Lawson was outstanding in front of Jack,” Smith said.
Shady Spring (3-2) travels to Mingo Central Monday.
