Pipestem – Greenbrier East freshman sensation Neena McClintic continued her domination of the local cross-country circuit Friday with another win at the Chick-fil-A Concord XC Festival at Pipestem State Park.
McClintic was 16 seconds faster than second-place finisher Violet Wall from Jefferson Christian Academy.
The two standouts battled earlier at the Beckley Chick-fil-A Invitational with Wall taking the title back in August.
The Spartans also won the girls high school team title edging Shady Spring by six points.
Joining McClintic in the scoring for East were Luella Mansheim (10th), Maddie Lilly (14th), Noelle McClintic (19th) and Katie Adkins (20th). Carter Wolfe finished 22nd, while Annie Whited was 31st and EmmaJo Palmer was 32nd for the Spartans.
Sophomore Gwynn McGinnis led Shady Spring in seventh place followed by Abby Honaker in ninth and Journey Wisthoff was 12th. Bre Crouse came home 16th and Madison Shrewsbury finished 30th.
James Monroe was third Friday powered by top-10 finishes from Katie Collins (4th) and Abby Dixon (6th). Gracie Tooze (18th) was also inside the top-20 for the Mavericks.
Carli Spade (PikeView) finished fifth, while Haley Johnson and Adrienne Truman from Nicholas County were eighth and 11th, respectively.
Princeton’s Asia Collins (13th) and Jaycee Pritchett (15th) were also inside the top-20 Friday along with Kyndal Lusk (17th) from Wyoming East.
Jefferson Christian won the boys high school event, followed by Shady Spring in second place and PikeView in third. Nicholas County was fourth, one point behind the Panthers.
Junior Johnny Walkup from Nicholas County won the individual race by five seconds over Jefferson Christian’s James Stalnaker. Walkup’s teammate Luke Barr was third followed by a pair PikeView runners, Matt Murphy (4th) and Tyler Huffman (5th).
Eli Jordan (7th) and Logan Mallot (8th) led the pack for Shady Spring who also had David Hegele (15th) and David Northrop (20th) in the top-20. The Tigers had solid runs from Reid Radford (23rd), Roman Gevenosky (24th) and Vaughn York (25th) as well.
Hank Marson (Bluefield) was 10th and was followed in order by Brady McCabe and Zachary Neal from Princeton.
Three Greenbrier East runners were also in the first 20 competitors to reach the finish line including Jackson Carter (13th), Joel Troyer (18th) and Lantry McClung (19th).
Victory Baptist Academy sophomore Isaac Conoway was 16th.
Joining James Stalnaker in the scoring five for Jefferson Christian were Tony Trout (6th), Jonathan Stalnaker (9th), Jake Bowden (14th) and Tim Phlegar (26th).
Eastern Greenbrier won the Middle School girls event. Raelyn Carr from Shady Spring was the individual winner, while Jillian Styles from Eastern Greenbrier was third and India Collins from Princeton finished third.
Oceana’s Brody Lester won the boys race followed by Caleb Rose from Shady Spring. Bryson Pritchett from PikeView was third to help lead the Panthers to the boys team title.
