The Mercer County Board of Education elected to move all Mercer County schools to remote learning during its meeting Tuesday evening.
Remote learning for the county will begin Thursday Sept. 16 with students eligible to return Monday Sept. 27.
During the remote learning period all athletic practices and games will be postponed until further notice.
Tuesday’s decision means Friday’s Beckley at Bluefield, Westside at PikeView and Montcalm at Craig County, Va. games are all postponed as well as each school’s Week 5 contests that are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 24. Princeton, which was scheduled to play Linsly on Friday had already canceled its game.
Update: PikeView and Westside have announced their game, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 17, will now be played on Monday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
