The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Mid-State Ford, Dutch Miller Automotive, Little General and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the first week of the prep football season. Voting will close Tuesday at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. Please read that sentence again. The poll determines the Community Choice winner and is used in the event of a tiebreaker. It DOES NOT determine the overall Player of the Week winner. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here.
The top overall vote getter will advance to our Community Choice poll at the end of the regular season where the winner of that poll will receive a $500 scholarship.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com.
- Kaiden Simms, Meadow Bridge – Simms rans the ball 31 times for 402 yards and six touchdowns, leading Meadow Bridge to a 38-22 win over Clay-Battelle.
- Tyson Adkins, Summers County – Adkins rushed for 72 yards and touchdown, adding four receptions for 158 yards and two more scores in Summers County’s win over No. 12 Sherman. On defense he totaled 12 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
- Willis Wilson, Bluefield – Wilson scored tow touchdowns for the Beavers in their 43-0 win over PikeView on homecoming.
- Jayden Roop, Midland Trail – Roop rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns Friday in a 41-14 win at Liberty.
- Ethan Holliday, Greenbrier West – Holliday caught four passes for 82 yards and a score Friday, adding a two-point conversion run in West’s 25-8 win against No. 1 James Monroe.
- D Hypes, Independence – Hypes finished with 11 tackles, three sacks and two tackles for a loss in Independence’s shutout victory over Westside.
- Braxton Morgan, Wyoming East – Morgan turned 21 carries into 162 yards and two touchdowns, adding a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown in a win against Richwood.
- Coleton Hellems, Nicholas County – Hellems completed 9 of 10 passes for 183 yards and two scores in Nicholas County’s 45-0 win over Braxton County.
- Malachi Lewis, Oak Hill – Lewis threw for 257 yards with a touchdown pass, adding a rushing score in Oak Hill’s win over Greenbrier East.
