CHAPMANVILLE- Brody Dalton’s return to the Chapmanville lineup was a success.
The junior quarterback rushed for 177 yards and five touchdowns and threw for 116 yards and one touchdown in Chapmanville’s 40-16 victory over Wayne Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
Dalton, 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds, had missed the previous two games because of a cut hand suffered in Chapmanville’s 29-18 victory over Nitro on Sept. 17.
“Brody is a great athlete and a great young man,” Chapmanville coach James Barker said. “Glad he finally had a true breakout game, because he’s capable of doing that every Friday night.”
Dalton for 177 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs covering 9, 35, 12, 8 and 31. He completed 6-of-11 passes for 116 yards and a 10-yard touchdown to Will Kirkendall.
Kohl Farmer rushed for 102 yards on 13 attempts while Caleb Whitt ran for 11 yards on three carries. Adam Mullins had three receptions for 48 yards, Kirkendall caught two passes for 15 yards and Jacob Topping had one catch for 27 yards.
“Kohl continues to get better and better with each rep, practice or game,” Barker said.
Chapmanville ran 43 plays for 406 yards of total offense, The Tigers rushed for 290 yards on 32 attempts behind the offensive line of Dan Atwood, JT Craddock, Benji Crouse, Brady Dalton and RJ Jones.
“Our offense line dominated the line of scrimmage,” Barker said. “Brody had a great performance, but he’d be the first to tell you that he couldn’t have done what he did without his offensive line.”
Ryan Chapman and Eli Pridemore led Chapmanville with eight tackles each while Charles Stallard had seven stops and Jereme Browning six tackles. Evan Plumley forced a fumble and Keith Kennedy recovered a fumble for the victorious Tigers.
Wayne got a pair of touchdowns from Jaxson Damron. Damron scored on runs of 26 and 14 yards for the Pioneers.
Chapmanville improves to 2-5 with the win while Wayne drops to 2-6. The Tigers will return to action this Friday night at county rival Logan.
“Always good to win, but when you win with the confidence we played with, it makes it fun,” Barker said. “Excited for the challenge Logan presents this week.”
“Gary Mullins has done great job turning them around in such a short time,” Barker said. “They’re known for their offensive firepower, but it’s Nick Booth’s defense that has been excellent this season.”
