The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Dutch Miller Auto Group has arrived in the Kanawha Valley!
Over the last two years, we at Lootpress have elected a Player of the Week winner in the southern coalfields. This year we’re expanding to give the Kanawha Valley (Boone, Kanawha and Putnam counties) its own poll with its own players to choose from. For the southern coalfields poll, click here.
Below are the candidates for the first week of the prep football season. Voting will close Tuesday at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here.
The top overall vote getter will advance to our Community Choice poll at the end of the regular season where the winner of that poll will receive a $500 scholarship.

- JacQai Long, Hurricane – In his return to the Mountain State, Long excelled. The senior QB competed 6 of 10 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns, adding 77 yards and two more scores on the ground in a 63-0 rout of county foe Winfield. See it here.
- Josh Moody, Nitro – Moody had a night for the ages, tossing eight touchdown passes and throwing for 420 yards as the Wildcats dominated Poca in a 56-6 win Friday night. Read about it here.
- Matt Frye, Scott – Frye threw for 276 yards and to complement three touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead the Skyhawks to a 50-19 victory over Herbert Hoover Saturday evening in Madison. See it here.
- Trey Lester, Sherman – Lester ran the ball 14 times for 159 yards, scoring two touchdowns and leading Sherman to a 20-12 victory against Hurley, Va.
