The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Dutch Miller Auto Group has arrived in the Kanawha Valley!
Over the last two years, we at Lootpress have elected a Player of the Week winner in the southern coalfields. This year we’re expanding to give the Kanawha Valley (Boone, Kanawha and Putnam counties) its own poll with its own players to choose from. For the southern coalfields poll, click here.
Below are the candidates for the first week of the prep football season. Voting will close Monday at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here.
The top overall vote getter will advance to our Community Choice poll at the end of the regular season where the winner of that poll will receive a $500 scholarship.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics to Tom Bragg at tommybragg@gmail.com For any questions please contact Tylerjackson@lootpress.com.
- Chase Massey, Winfield – Massey turned 15 carries into 127 yards and two touchdowns, adding 128 yards and another score on 5-of-11 passing as Winfield held on for an early signature win in a 35-22 victory against Herbert Hoover.
- Malachi Thompson, Nitro – Of the 11 touchdowns the Week 1 Player of the Week Josh Moody threw Friday, Thompson was on the receiving end of five of them accounting for all of his catches. For good measure he added 263 receiving yards in a Nitro win.
- Matt Frye, Scott – Frye was 12-of-17 passing, throwing for 235 yards and two touchdowns while adding 64 yards and two more scores with his legs.
- JacQai Long, Hurricane – Long was efficient again Friday, completing 10 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns while adding a 50-yard run in a 93-7 win against Capital.
