Kingwood – Beckley erupted for 29 points in the first quarter bouncing Preston 50-13 Thursday evening in Kingwood.
With the win the Flying Eagles move to 5-1 on the season.
The game, played Thursday afternoon because of the Buckwheat Festival, started fast but the fireworks were mostly supplied throughout the evening by the visiting Flying Eagles.
A.J. Thomas returned the opening kick 94 yards for the Flying Eagles and Preston struck back a little over a minute later when Slaton Manko found Dillon Taylor for a 87-yard touchdown reception.
Preston struggled to keep up in the boat race with Beckley answering a minute later on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Devin Richardson to Elijah Redfern.
By the time the dust settled the Flying Eagles led 29-7 after a quarter and 43-13 at the break.
Beckley will aim to keep its momentum rolling next week when it travels to reigning Class AAA state champion Huntington.
