Poca – The 5-2 Herbert Hoover Huskies hit the road Friday, taking down Poca 63-13.
Hoover struck pay dirt first, fast and often.
Huskies quarterback Dane Hatfield opened the scoring, scrambling 68 yards to go up 7-0. On the ensuing kickoff, Connor Brinckman caused a turnover and the Huskies recovered the fumble. The Hoover offense came back out and Rocco Frye scored the first of his four touchdowns on the evening on a 5-yard scamper to go up 14-0. In the second quarter, Rocco powered into the end zone on 13 and 14 yard carries, respectively, to go up 28-0.
Hoover pinned Poca deep and then muffed a punt by the Dots to turn the ball over deep in Husky territory. Poca’s Garett McCormick caught a 4 yard, back of the end zone pass to put up 7 on the board and bring the score to 28-7. Rocco Frye then added number four for the night with a 29-yard run and with a little less than two minutes in the half Dane Hatfield finds Brayden Jones for a 73 yard catch and score to end the half 42-7.Â
The Huskies received the ball to start the second half and Rocco Frye had a long return to the Dots’ 25. On a quick zoom pass to Jacob Burns, Burns hit the edge and didn’t stop until he was in the end zone. After a turnover of downs, Randy Hughart added another score with a 7-yard run. With the starters on the sideline, Poca’s Brad Jones had a 14-yard run to cut the deficit to 56-13. The Huskies then added the final score with a 10-yard run from Peyton Young for the final score.
Next up for the now 6-2 Huskies will be Logan on the road. Poca (1-8) will end their season at home against Wayne.
