Coal City – On senior night the young pups at Independence made a name for themselves.
With all-state running back Atticus Goodson sitting out for precautionary reasons Judah Price and Tyler Linkswiler each rushed for over 100 yards as Independence rolled to a 60-8 win over Wyoming East Friday in Coal City.
Linkswiler carried the ball 13 times for 142 yards and two scores while Price carried it just four times, scoring on three of them and finishing his night with 114 yards on the ground.
Senior quarterback Logan Phalin completed both of his passing attempts for 64 yards, connecting with Trey Bowers on a 33-yard touchdown pass.
Independence finishes the regular season 8-0, capping its first undefeated season since 1986. The Patriots will be off next week and will likely host at least two playoff games should they advance past the first round.
