Lindside – On a night where the James Monroe defense gave up more points than it had in its previous three games combined – most of them in garbage time – the offense more than excelled.
Layton Dowdy completed 10 of his 16 passing attempts for 170 yards and three touchdowns as the Mavericks rolled to a 41-22 victory over Covington, Va. Friday night in Lindside.
Dowdy’s top target was Eli Allen who hauled in four passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns a week after registering 82 yards and two touchdowns in his debut. Chazz Boggs caught two passes for 48 yards, registering the third touchdown catch of the game and for good measure he turned six carries into 104 yards and two touchdowns.
Cooper Ridgeway was solid with 117 yards on 18 carries in the win.
James Monroe improves to 4-0 and will host Class AA PikeView next Friday.
