Wheeling – James Monroe compiled 441 yard on the ground Friday, opening its season with a 45-33 win on the road at Wheeling Central.
All-staters Cooper Ridgeway and Layton Dowdy led the way with the former rushing for 148 yards and two scores while hauling in four passes for 64 yards. Dowdy was 7 of 9 passing with 100 yards and a score through the air. He added 85 yards and another score on the ground while Chaz Boggs added a rushing a receiving touchdown.
The Mavericks (1-0) will take their first bye next week before traveling to PikeView on Sept. 8.
