NITRO- Jordan Hayes and Carson Kirk hooked up for two touchdowns as the Logan Wildcats, ranked 15th in the latest Class AA ratings, shutout the Nitro Wildcats 19-0 at Underwood Field Friday night.
Hayes completed 13-of-20 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns while Kirk hauled in eight receptions for 131 and two scores. Kolton Goldie rushed for 70 yards on 11 attempts and scored one touchdown.
Logan’s defense held Nitro to 123 yards of total offense and just six first downs. Nitro running back Braxton Smith rushed for 46 yards on 10 carries while Derek Lowe threw for 49 yards in the defeat.
Logan improved to 4-2 with the win while Nitro dropped to 0-6 on the season.
Logan will host Class AA No. 8 Scott (4-1) for homecoming in a game that will have significant impact on the playoff ratings. Nitro will travel to Class AA No. 13 Clay County (3-1) in search of its first victory.
No. 3 Herbert Hoover 55, Chapmanville 7
FALLING ROCK- Using a quick strike offense and a short field, Class AA No. 3 Herbert Hoover needed just 28 plays to roll up 308 yards and 55 points in a 55-7 victory over Chapmanville Friday night at Joe Eddie Cowley Field.
The Huskies jumped out to a 28-7 halftime lead. In the first half, Herbert Hoover ran just nine plays to Chapmanville’s 31 plays.
Chapmanville’s Kohl Farmer carried the ball 25 times rushing for 64 yards. Farmer was responsible for the Tigers lone touchdown as he found Will Kirkendoll for a 10-yard scoring strike in the second quarter.
Hunter Bartley rushed for 79 yards on 10 attempts and scored three touchdowns for the Huskies. Quarterback Dane Hatfield rushed for 86 yards on seven carries and passed for 119 yards and one touchdown. Jacob Burns hauled in two passes for 88 yards and one touchdown.
Chapmanville (1-5) will have a week off before hosting Wayne on Oct. 15. The Pioneers have won 22-of-the-25 meetings between the two schools.
Herbert Hoover (6-0) off to its best start since 1977 will travel to Wayne Friday night.
