Oak Hill – Oak Hill rallied from a 20-6 deficit Friday evening to knock off defending Class AA champion Independence 27-26 in Oak Hill.
Malachi Lewis threw four touchdown passes against the Patriots, piling up 130 yards through the air while J.D. Mauritz rushed for 109 yards. Trey Bowers and Connor Bradford each rushed for 100 yards in the loss after Independence running back Tyler Linksweiler left early with a shoulder injury.
The loss is the first in the regular season for Indy since Oct. 2, 2020 when it fell to Liberty.
The Patriots will be on a bye next week before hosting Shady Spring on Sept. 15.
Oak Hill will continue its gauntlet Friday when it travels to Princeton in a matchup of undefeated Class AAA schools.
