The WVSSAC announced that the prep football playoffs, which were scheduled to start Friday, have been delayed indefinitely pending legal litigation.“
We are extremely disappointed to not be having the playoffs this weekend,” WVSSAC Executive Director David Price said in a press release. “We understand the frustration from all of the parties involved, and we want nothing more than to put the focus back on the student-athletes and their pursuit of a championship. However, we must abide by the decisions of the courts and their timeline.”
The decision comes after competing injunctions were filed and granted in separate circuit courts pertaining to how the playoff rating points are awarded. An injunction filed and granted in Wood County last week reverted the playoff rating points to the totals assigned to teams before 23 teams were dropped a class in late August.
Competing injunctions were filed this week after four teams were excluded from the playoffs as a result of the Wood County injunction.
