Elkview – Class AAA No. 5 Oak Hill’s historic campaign came to a close Friday night with a 56-14 quarterfinal loss to No. 4 Herbert Hoover at a snowy Husky Stadium.
The Red Devils had no answers for the high-powered Huskies who raced out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter.
All-state quarterback and Kennedy Award candidate Dane Hatfield scored on runs on 1 and 5 yards for a 14-0 lead with 5:47 to play in the opening stanza.
Running back Blake Fisher doubled the lead with a 21-yard scamper and a 31-yard punt return for a touchdown as the quarter expired.
Oak Hill answered with a 4-yard pass from Devin Richardson to Carson Treadway before No. 4 Herbert Hoover fired off two more scores for the halftime margin.
Fisher scored his third touchdown of the opening half with an 11-yard jaunt and Hatfield found Sam Kee for a 21-yard back-breaker just before halftime.
The Hoover quarterback added a rushing score in the third quarter and a passing touchdown to Talon Harrison early in the fourth quarter.
Richardson hooked up with Mikey Spack for a 51-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Hatfield ran for 136 yards and passed for 76 more, accounting for five scores, while Fisher had 117 yards on the ground and two scores.
Richardson tallied 178 yards with two touchdowns and had 57 yards rushing.
Oak Hill finishes the season at 10-2, while Hoover (12-0) moves on to the semifinal round where it will face the winner of No. 1 Princeton and No. 8 North Marion. That game will be played Saturday at 4 p.m.
