Wheeling has been the host city for the Super Six state football championships since 1994. For the next three years that will change.
The WVSSAC announced Thursday morning that Laidley Field in Charleston will be the site for the state championships for the next three years with a mutual option for a fourth year. The games were held in Charleston prior to the move to Wheeling 30 years ago.
The 2024 state championships will see numerous changes to the event outside of relocation to a new city. With the move to four classifications going into effect next school year there will be four state championship games, marking the end of the Super Six era.
