NAUGATUCK- Tug Valley’s Buddy Marcum ran for 269 yards and four touchdowns as Tug Valley racked up nearly 400 yards of offense in a 41-0 shutout of rival Tolsia Friday night at Bob Brewer Stadium.
Marcum, who started the game as an offensive linemen, was moved to quarterback when Elijah Fluty left the game in the second quarter with an injury. Fluty rushed for 67 yards on 10 carries and scored one touchdown. Fluty also completed 4-of-9 passes for 29 yards.
Tanner Kirk rushed for 22 yards on seven carries and one touchdown. Kirk was ejected midway through the third quarter after an altercation with Tolsia’s Levi Parsley. Both players will have to set out their next contest per West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission rules.
Tolsia was held to 158 yards of total offense. Eli Blackburn rushed for 126 yards on 25 carries for the Rebels, who dropped to 0-4 for the first time since 2014. The Rebels will travel to Mingo Central Friday night in search of win number one on the year.
Tug Valley improves to 2-3 on the year. The Panthers next scheduled game is Oct. 15 at Westside, however, they are currently searching for an opponent in place of Phelps (KY). The Panthers and Hornets were to play two weeks ago but COVID issues forced the cancellation of the contest.
