The soccer connection between Oak Hill High School and Concord University is nothing new.
Former Red Devils standout, Tristan Bragg just completed his senior season for the Mountain Lions men’s team.
Over on the women’s side, Courtney Smith has been a key member of the Concord women’s team that is in the midst of a NCAA Div. II Tournament run.
Now you can add current Oak Hill soccer standout, Ty Carr to the mix in Athens. Wednesday morning, surrounded by family and friends, Carr made it official to play next season for the Mountain Lions.
“This is very exciting. It’s a dream that I have had since I was a little kid being able to play at the next level,” Carr said. “I just want to say a big thank you to all of the coaches and people that impacted my life, along with (head) coach (Steve) Barrett at Concord. I am super excited and looking forward to meeting the team.”
The Oak Hill senior spoke with Smith before he made his final decision to play for the Mountain Lions.
“Courtney is one of my good friends and I talked to her a little bit before the decision,” Carr said “She told me it was a good fit and I will do good things there.”
Carr, who will major in business management, mentioned a couple of reasons he felt that Concord would be a perfect fit for him
“My parents went there and it’s a great school. I just think it is the best fit for me as far as academics and athletics,” Carr said.
Making the move from high school to the college game is never easy, but Carr is convinced he will be ready to play when his time comes.
“We have dealt with a lot of adversity through my four years. I think that is one thing that has helped me become a better player and has me ready for the next level,” Carr said. “I have put in the work all my life. Now I just need to keep working until the day comes, live for the moment and prove myself.”
