Lindside – Emily Bailey’s one-out groundout scored Shannon Phipps in the bottom of the seventh Monday as James Monroe defeated River View 6-5 to claim the sectional championship in Lindside.
Trailing 5-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth, the Mavericks tacked on three runs to tie the game before the seventh when Phipps opened the frame with a double to set the tone.
Emily Bailey led the Mavs with three RBIs while Bryleigh Thomas went the distance in the circle.
James Monroe advances to next week’s regional round where it will face the winner of Greenbrier West-Midland Trail.
Greenbrier West 12, Richwood 4 (5 Innings)
Greenbrier West defeated Richwood 12-4 in five innings Monday to secure a spot in the sectional championship game.
The Cavaliers will travel to Midland Trail on Tuesday needing to win two games to win the sectional championship.
