Nitro 1, Independence 0 (13 innings)
Nitro – A few weeks after falling in a 15-inning pitcher’s duel, Independence again came up on the short end of another showdown, falling 1-0 to Nitro in 13 innings Thursday in Nitro.
Wildcats ace Lena Elkins was dominant, fanning 24 batters and yielding just three hits while Indy ace Delaney Buckland struck out 14 and walked just one.
Indy finishes the regular season 14-12 and will host Liberty in the sectional opener on Tuesday.
Shady Spring 2, Greenbrier East 0
Fairlea – Shady Spring ace Paige Maynard struck out 13 and delivered an RBI single as the Shady Spring defeated Greenbrier East 2-0 Thursday in Fairlea.
Shady’s other all-stater, Olivia Barnett, went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in the first run of the game with a double. Brooke Davis notched East’s only hit while pitcher Josi Ervin struck out 10 in seven innings of work.
Shady improves to 13-2 and will travel to East Fairmont on Friday. East drops to 10-9 and will host Nicholas County on Friday.
Greenbrier West 7, James Monroe 5
Crawley – Brooke Nutter collected two hits and drove in two runs as Greenbrier West avenged an earlier walk-off loss to James Monroe with a 7-5 win over the Mavericks Thursday in Crawley.
Bryleigh Thomas led James Monroe with two hits and two RBIs in the loss.
James Monroe finishes the regular season at 12-8 and will play Mount View on Tuesday in the first round of sectional play.
Wyoming East 11, Midland Trail 3
New Richmond – Nine different Lady Warriors had a hit as Wyoming East defeated Midland Trail 11-3 Thursday in New Richmond.
Kayley Bane led the way at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Andrea Laxton drove in four runs. Savannah Brehm added three RBIs as well for East.
Kathryn Hawkins led Trail with two hits, driving in a run.
East improves to 14-12 and will host Bluefield on Friday for senior night.
