Coal City – Junior Delaney Buckland went the distance, striking out 10 batters Wednesday as Independence secured a 4-0 win against reigning Class AAA champion Cabell Midland on Senior Night in Coal City.
The victory avenges a 9-0 loss to the Highlanders on Tuesday at Cabell Midland.
Kendall Martin led the Patriots at the plate going 2-for-2 while senior Sarah Bragg collected a hit and an RBI.
Indy improves to 10-8 and will travel to PikeView on Monday.
James Monroe 14, Covington, Va. 6
Lindside – Shannon Phipps homered twice on senior night guiding James Monroe to a 14-6 win over Covington, Va. Wednesday night in Lindside.
Phipps led all batters with four RBIs while Haley Hunnicut and Bryleigh Thomas each collected three hits and drove in two runs apiece.
James Monroe improves to 9-6 and will travel to Richwood on Friday.
