Summersville – Greenbrier West defeated Wyoming East, 2-0 (25-9, 25-17), to win the championship title at the Nicholas County Invitational Saturday.
The Cavaliers swept River View (25-14, 25-16) in the quarterfinals before beating the host team, 2-0 (26-24, 25-13) in the semifinal round.
Greenbrier West was 4-2 in pool play, defeating Liberty (25-10, 25-9) and River View (25-15, 25-15) before falling to the Warriors 2-0 (17-25, 17-25).
The senior duo of Preslee Treadway and Paige Dean were a force on all levels for the Cavaliers in the championship run. Dean recorded 42 kills, 11 aces, 48 service points and 62 digs. Treadway dropped 43 winners along with seven blocks, 78 digs and five aces.
Brooklyn Adkins collected 27 digs and had five aces, while Maddie Sweet served up 90 assists on the day and Meghan Griffith had 41 digs.
Wyoming East raced through pool play undefeated with 2-0 wins over River View (25-17, 25-7), Liberty (25-18, 25-14) and Greenbrier West.
Westside fell to the Warriors, 2-0 (26-24, 25-12) in the quarterfinals, as did Trinity Christian (25-18, 25-20) in the semifinal round.
Carli Raye paced the Warriors with 44 kills, 19 total blocks, 33 digs and 28 receptions. Amanda Silva recorded 24 kills, 33 digs and 20 receptions. Lauren Staton had 57 assists and nine aces, while Kenzie McGraw handed out 37 assists and had five aces. Mack Hatfield added 27 digs and 24 assists.
