James Monroe 3, Greater Beckley 1
Beckley – In its return to action after quarantining for two week, James Monroe’s volleyball team beat Greater Beckley in four sets Tuesday at Greater Beckley.
The Mavericks won the first set 26-24 before dropping the second 26-24. They finished strong winning set three 25-14 and the fourth 25-21.
James Monroe improves to 3-0 and will host Greenbrier East on Wednesday.
Shady Spring 2, Herbert Hoover 0
Shady Spring 2, Wayne 0
Shady Spring swept a tri-match Tuesday, beating regional foe Herbert Hoover 2-0 and handing Wayne the same fate.
The Tigers beat Hoover 25-20 in both sets, handing the previously unbeaten Huskies their first loss of the season. The Tigers then made quick work of the Pioneers, winning 25-11 and 25-8.
Shady improves to 11-0 and will host Class AAA powers Beckley and George Washington on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
Beckley Tri-Match
Beckley went 2-0 on the evening, picking up tri-match wins over George Washington and Oak Hill.
The Flying Eagles beat GW 25-23 in both sets and dispatched of sectional foe Oak Hill 25-8 and 25-10.
Elysia Salon led Beckley with 26 kills and 18 digs while Abby Dillon added 45 assists and 14 digs.
Abby Wooton added 15 digs on the evening.
