Meg Williams and Chloe Thompson took the high school volleyball world by storm as freshmen.
Somehow it seemed fitting Saturday that both Shady Spring all-state hitters crossed an iconic milestone together on the same day.
In the process of leading the Tigers to a sweep of their opening season quad with Class AAA foes George Washington, Cabell Midland and Huntington, the dynamic duo both reached 1,000 career kills.
Shady Spring knocked off the Patriots 2-1 (12-25, 25-16, 25-11) before sweeping the Knights (25-14, 25-12) and Highlanders (25-16, 25-20).
“It was a good start to the season and gave us a lot to work on in practice,” Shady Spring head coach Kelly Williams said. “It was a great weekend for both the JV and varsity to play at home in front of the community, family and friends.”
In seven sets played, Meg Williams had 28 kills, 6 blocks, 20 digs and three aces. Thompson recorded 24 kills and 22 digs, while Camille Testerman had 11 kills to go along with 24 digs. Rachel Mann recorded 10 kills, 20 digs and had a pair of aces.
Playing in her first high school matches, freshman Reagan Mann had 10 kills, 33 assists, nine digs and five aces over her seven sets. Haley Sweeney added 40 assists and eight digs.
The JV team went 2-1 for the day with wins over George Washington and Cabell Midland.
Shady Spring is back in action Saturday at the Shirley Brown Invitational hosted by Woodrow Wilson at 9 a.m.
