SUMMERSVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Princeton man was arrested Tuesday night after an incident at a girls’ basketball game at Nicholas County High School, according to the Summersville Police Department.
Police said officers were escorting Ronald Stroupe Jr., of Princeton, out of the school gym on Feb. 17, 2026, after he was involved in a verbal altercation with another parent.
According to the incident report, the school resource officer had asked Stroupe multiple times to calm down before he was directed to leave the premises.
While being escorted from the gym, Stroupe allegedly became increasingly belligerent and physical with the officer. Authorities said he was placed under arrest during the encounter.
Police reported that while officers were taking Stroupe into custody, a firearm fell from his waistband onto the gym floor. Stroupe allegedly grabbed the gun and refused to release it.
Officers from the Summersville Police Department, with assistance from the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department, were able to disarm him and place him in custody.
Stroupe was charged with possession of a deadly weapon on the premises of an educational facility, brandishing, obstructing an officer, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
He was transported to Central Regional Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment before a magistrate.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
