PUTNAM COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An emergency call leads to one man being arrested.
On October 25, 2024, a medical emergency call led to a tense encounter with law enforcement after deputies in the Brushfork area of Putnam County were called to the residence of Brian Bailey on 2nd Avenue North. Mr. Bailey himself had initially contacted emergency services, reportedly concerned about someone inside the residence experiencing difficulty breathing. However, when deputies arrived, they found Bailey and other individuals outside the home, leading to an incident that quickly escalated.
When deputies reached the location, they were actively investigating unrelated reports of theft in the area. Recognizing Bailey’s name as a possible suspect, they responded to his medical call and approached the home. Upon arrival, a man informed deputies that Bailey was inside and behaving erratically. Deputies could hear Bailey shouting from outside, and when they entered, he appeared to be visibly agitated and possibly under the influence of a substance.
Deputies, including Deputy T.A. Lacy and others, attempted to calm Bailey and noticed he was armed with a large pocket knife. As they tried to assist him and ensure the scene was safe for medical responders, Bailey allegedly spat on Deputy Lacy and resisted attempts to be detained. Meanwhile, another man, identified as Bailey’s son, approached the entrance, allegedly making threats against a deputy. Deputies struggled to detain Bailey, who reportedly resisted for several minutes, injuring Deputy Lacy’s finger during the altercation.
Bailey was eventually handcuffed and transported to the Putnam County Courthouse. There, he continued to be combative, disrupting the courthouse environment with loud, profane outbursts, which prompted deputies to consider additional disorderly conduct charges. Bailey was later taken to CAMC Teays Hospital, where he again reportedly caused a disturbance, but was ultimately cleared by medical staff and then transported to the Western Regional Jail.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the events, and Bailey is expected to face charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and possible charges related to the alleged thefts in the area.
