BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Board of Education is set to consider proposals that could lead to the closure of two elementary schools and the reassignment of their students to other schools in the county.
According to the agenda for a special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, the board will receive impact statements and supporting data concerning proposed closures of Cranberry-Prosperity Elementary School and Mabscott Elementary School.
Under the proposal, Cranberry-Prosperity Elementary would close and its students would be merged into Bradley Elementary School, Maxwell Hill Elementary School and Stanaford Elementary School.
A separate proposal calls for Mabscott Elementary School to close, with its students merged into Crescent Elementary School and Hollywood Elementary School.
The Mabscott proposal also includes relocating the Severe Disabilities program from Hollywood Elementary School to Beckley Elementary School.
The board is also expected to schedule public hearings on both proposed school closures.
The special meeting is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Raleigh County Board of Education office at 105 Adair Street in Beckley.
