BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of the Raleigh County Commission on Tuesday approved a grant to Soil Conservation in the amount of $20,000 to go toward flood control measures in the county.
The grant funds saw discussion during Tuesday’s Regular Session meeting of the Raleigh County Commission, having been presented for consideration roughly halfway through the session’s agenda.
Awarded in the amount of $20,000, the grant funds will go toward flood control and mitigating flooding issues with regard to the Cranberry Creek Channel running through the northern region of the City of Beckley.
Raleigh County Commission President, Greg Duckworth made note of significant flooding issues which previously impacted the channel but have since been offset by mitigation efforts.
“Years ago, we used to have a lot of flooding out there; they came in and did a tremendous amount of work,” said Duckworth. “But it does require a certain amount of maintenance, and that’s what this is for.”
The Soil Conservation grant funds in the amount of $20,000 for flooding control for the Cranberry Creek Channel saw approval during Tuesday’s meeting of the Raleigh County Commission.
Also initially announced as part of Tuesday’s meeting agenda was consideration of the adoption of Grievance Procedures/Citizens Complains for Raleigh County as well as consideration of the appointment of a Grievance Coordinator for the county.
These items, included as items 5.7 and 5.8 on the session agenda, respectively, were tabled during the session, however. Explicit explanation with regard to the decision to set aside these agenda items was not provided in depth during the meeting.
