Raleigh County Commission approves transfer of property to veteran’s museum

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An Eisenhower Drive property on Tuesday was approved for transfer by the Raleigh County Commission for use by the Raleigh County Veteran’s Museum.

During Tuesday’s Regular Session of the Raleigh County Commission, a property listed at 201 Eisenhower Drive was the subject of discussion as item 5.6 in the “New Business” portion of the meeting.

Work has been underway for the establishment of the museum for some time and a number of country grants have gone toward the completion of the project.

The transfer of the Eisenhower Drive property for use by the museum does come with one caveat, entailing the reverting of the property back to the Raleigh County Commission should it be utilized for purposes not in line with the mission and establishment of the museum.

“This is what commonly referred to as the old Safe Lease headquarters or barracks there on Eisenhower drive,” explained Raleigh County Attorney, Bill Roop. “It’ll be conveyed to a 501C3 nonprofit. The deed will also have a reverter in it that if it ever ceases to be used or operated as a veteran’s museum that it will revert back to the county Commission.”

Raleigh County Commission President noted the quality of the work being conducted in the preperation of the museum and urged residents to utilize the facility once it has been prepared for use.

“I would add that they’re doing a lot of work, and that’s a really good project,” said Duckworth. I would encourage anyone to visit that when they get it up and running.”

A motion for the transfer of the property to the Raleigh County Veterans Museum was seconded, with the agenda item ultimately being approved during Tuesday’s meeting.

The session also saw approval of two grants for the Sophia Little League organization. Stay with LOOTPRESS for the latest from the Raleigh County Commission.
