BEAVER, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A local man is facing felony drug charges after deputies found suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl during a welfare check at a convenience store.
According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, Corporal Bo Garrett responded to a report of an unresponsive male in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at Sheetz, located at 810 Ritter Drive, on Sunday, August 3.

Upon arrival, Cpl. Garrett confirmed the man did not need medical attention. During the encounter, drug paraphernalia was seen inside the vehicle.
Garrett deployed his K-9 partner, Red, who alerted to the presence of narcotics.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 55.64 grams of suspected methamphetamine—approximately 556 doses with a street value of $5,500—and 6.31 grams of suspected fentanyl—about 63 doses valued at $1,200.
The driver, identified as William J. Elam, 59, of Beaver, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
He was transported to Southern Regional Jail where he remains on a $50,000 bond.
Authorities remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
